Monday, March 15 (Finals week): All/final project deliverables due in my mailbox (office or email) by 4p.m.


For week 10, March 12: Hand in the final draft of your philosophy of teaching computer science.


For week 9, March 5: Prepare an early draft of your project results for a short (3-5 minutes) presentation
for the class: (1) what technology did you try; (2) what was the upfront investment for learning, setup;
(3) what was the student response; (4) what is your response; (5) would you use it again; (6) would you recommend?


For week 8, February 26: Report (a paragraph to a page) on your experiences with implementing one or two "classroom assessment techniques." For each CAT (1) describe the particular technique; (2) why you decided to try it; (3) what worked well and (4) what (if anything) you would change for next time.


For week 7, February 19: Hand in a paper (one paragraph to one page) with your response to the question: (How) is teaching computer science different from teaching other academic subjects, and what, if any, are the implications for teaching computer science?


For week 6, February 12: Review TEP learning assessment handouts and questions.


For week 5, February 5: Hand in a first draft of your philosophy of teaching (one paragraph to one page), explaining your approach to teaching.


For week 4, January 29: Watch the video "Teaching in America" (on the TEPHub/38 minutes) and hand in a reaction paper (one paragraph to one page).


For week 3, January 22: Project proposals are due. Also, please bring two questions for the gtf panel next week.


For week 2, January 15: Report (a paragraph to a page) on your experiences with implementing two teaching tips from the assigned readings for weeks 1 and 2. For each teaching tip, mention (1) the tip and page number from the book; (2) why you decided to try it; (3) what worked well; and (4) what you would change for next time.


For week 1, January 8: Consider for class discussion: What is your definition for and description of an "effective teacher"?


Ongoing - Send me your favorite quotes about teaching (esp. computer science teaching) for the "Perspectives" page at the class website.
